5. New Council Elections
Purpose and Role of the School Council:
• School councils are advisory bodies that can make recommendations to the principal or the Board on matters as stated in
Board Policy and procedure. Specifically, school councils are responsible for:
• promoting parent, family and community engagement in support of student achievement and wellbeing in an equitable and inclusive manner
• participating in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan
• communicating with, and providing ongoing advice to the principal on school-related matters
• collaborating with the principal to coordinate community resources that support student
learning, achievement and well-being
• understanding and communicating with members of the community about the roles and
responsibilities of school councils as outlined in the School Councils policy and
procedure and appropriate guidelines and legislation, as required
Election of Officers
• Council members elect the executive positions
• Chair (Co-Chairs), Treasurer, Secretary
• Positions can only be held by parent members and not employed by the Board
• All parent members are eligible, regardless of prior experience
• Positions can be filled by election or appointment
• The term of office is one year; members may be re-elected or re-appointed

6. TAC, MAC, SAC, SWAC Updates
TAC - Transition Activities Council
• Consists of 50 mentors (Gr. 10-12)
• Meet Tuesdays after-school, as needed
• Teacher Advisors: J. Li, D. McKillop

• Keep an eye out for applications in the spring of your Grade 9 year

MAC - Markville Athletic Council
• Consists of approx. 22 members from grade 9 -12
• Meets every Tuesday after school (3:05-4:00 pm)
• Teacher Advisors: Ms. Chong, Ms. Wou

• Consists of 25 students + 1 mascot (Marty) from grade 9-12, Some elected, some appointed
• Meets every Tuesday after school (3:05-4:30 pm)

- Occurs during periods 3 & 4 in the large gym (or atrium in case of rain)
- Allows new + returning clubs to advertise to the student body
- Last year had 50+ clubs participating!

• Student Activity Fee $40
