Meet Your Guidance Department

Appointments

Counsellors are available for student appointments in person. Google Meet appointments may be booked for family Guidance appointments (book via Parent Portal). 

Student appointments with a counsellor can be made through TeachAssist​ (How-To: Book a Guidance Appt​). Students are free to select any counsellor based on alpha (last name), available period, or personal preference.

What we do

Guidance and Career Education offers to students, teachers, parents, and the community a variety of services and programs.  The Guidance department at Unionville provides support regarding the academic and personal needs of each individual student. Academic counselling may include assistance with course selection, career planning or pathway options.

Each student is unique and has individual needs that are important to them. At Unionville, counsellors of​fer individual appointments to facilitate each student’s needs. We believe in guiding and challenging our students to become independent, healthy learners that consistently work at their full potential.

Our guidance department serves the school community in a variety of ways:

• Supports students in academic planning and course selection.
• Helps students to seek out special pathways programs in secondary school that support their learning styles, interests and needs.
• Helps individual students to envision a plan for post-secondary and target some short and long term goals.
• Provides information around all post-secondary pathways (workplace, college, apprenticeship, university) and  career pathways.
• Supports students in establishing effective study habits and exam preparation.
• Coaches in the scholarship application process.
• Supports students in such life skills as decision-making, problem-solving, conflict-resolution,  stress  and  time management and relationship awareness.
• Provides personal counselling and referrals to  community resources.
• Provides crisis counselling and referrals to community resources.

There are many opportunities beyond the regular classroom to explore your education and career choices. Your first step in trying a new opportunity is being aware of those options.
